In the past year, the Learning Resources and Telehealth Services department of the Health Sciences Library has looked at technologies that would enhance the videoconferencing technology used in Telehealth Services events. We have added to the audiovisual equipment in the Learning Resources Center (LRC), the following items. A JVC SR-MV45 DVD-R and S-VHS/VHS Dual Deck. This device can be used to record to DVD or videotape, or to copy videotapes to DVD. We have been using it both to archive some videotapes in our collection to DVD and to transfer videos of LUMC classes and programs to DVD. We have upgraded our Apple PowerMac with iLife ’06. The iLife ’06 software package includes iPhoto, for managing photos and editing them into print and electronic displays iMovie HD, for creating and editing digital movies iDVD, for creating DVDs of digital movies and editing movies to include chapters and menus, and GarageBand, for creating music programs and podcasts. A computer with a video capture card and Adobe Premiere Elements and Nero Ultra 7. We have used this computer to capture video from videotaped programs and to copy these videos to DVDs or to Windows Media Player movie formats. Video has become a more common feature of educational programs and media in the past few years. These new LRC items of equipment have been added to assist library users in their efforts to incorporate video into LUMC educational presentations. In addition to adding video capabilities to the Learning Resources Center, we have worked with the web development staff of the Health Sciences Library to add links to Internet accessible video resources relating to the health sciences.
