Loyola University Medical Center faculty, staff,
and students may request loan of material not available in the
Health Sciences Library. A current barcoded Medical Center ID
is required.
Interlibrary
Loan Request Forms:
Forms are available online at http://www.luhs.org/template/mail/library/loan.cfm.
This form should be filled out completely. Request must comply
with copyright law.You can also initiate a request using the
ORDER BUTTON in OVID. The following bibliographic information
must be provided:
Journal Request: Journal Title, Volume, Year,
Author of Article, Pages, Title of Article, Source of Reference
(e.g. MEDLINE).
Book Request: Author or Editor, Title, Publisher,
Year of Publication, Source of Reference.
Requests should be made only for items which are
not available in the Health Sciences Library. Patrons are expected
to check Pegasus (Loyola's
online catalog) or the Library's e-journals
pages.
The Interlibrary Loan Service is a courtesy of
the library from which the item is borrowed. If material on
reserve in other libraries cannot be copied or the request violates
copyright law, it will not be lent. A national code governs
library policy on interlibrary loans.
In order to expedite the processing of requests,
complete citations are appreciated. Please include the source
of the reference (i.e. Index Medicus, MEDLINE) on the request
form. An incomplete or illegible form delays processing of the
loan.
Patrons are notified when material has been received,
and may pick up articles or books at the Circulation Desk. Materials
will be sent to the Primary Care Centers.
Materials from other Loyola Libraries are generally
available in two or three days. Items from outside libraries
require 2-14 days; when possible the Library will utilize fax
(24 hour) service. For urgent patient care and other special
cases, the Library will endeavor to secure "urgent"
(4 hour) fax service.
The Health Sciences Library participates in the
Interlibrary Loan Subsystem of the OCLC Online System and the
DOCLINE system of the National Library of Medicine. Participation
in these systems enables the Health Sciences Library to locate
and borrow materials locally, regionally, or nationally. The
turnaround time varies for requests due to the fact that items
can be borrowed from a variety of sources.
For those patrons wishing to use other libraries
in the Chicago area, Research
& Access Services has a copy of the Illinois Health
Science Libraries Serials Holdings List (SILO). This list helps
in locating titles not carried by this library. The Research
& Access Services Librarians can also provide information
about the hours and policies of area libraries.
