The LRC includes: collections of videos, slides, audiotapes, and computer media software. There are three group study rooms available for use to anyone with a valid Loyola I.D. The LRC has audiovisual playback consoles, tv/vcrs, a scanner, a laminator, and a typewriter. In addition, the LRC includes a photocopy room and restrooms.

LRC Computers

The LRC has several computers for use by Loyola students (from any campus), staff, and faculty. These computers are configured to support research, education and report writing activities of LUMC personnel.

Applications supported on the LRC computers include MS Office (word processing, spreadsheet, database and Powerpoint presentation software,) email, Internet access, statistical software (Systat and SPSS,) and Endnote for bibliographic reference management.

The LRC computers all have CD drives to write files to writeable CDs. Two computers share a scanner. LRC computers support data storage on zip drives, CD-Rs, CD-RWs, and floppy disks. All computers have available USB ports. The LRC staff recommend data storage on USB memory devices.

All LRC computers are configured to erase stored files on log in or start up. LRC staff recommend frequent saving to one’s own storage devices or emailing files to oneself.

A networked printer is accessible from all LRC computers. With the exception of certain library resources, printing costs $.05 per page.

The LRC has installed wireless Internet access (802.11 b/g) and can support access to personal computers that are wireless enabled.

AV Equipment Services

The LRC provides general audiovisual equipment — slide projectors, overhead projectors, TV/VCR units, computers and LCD projectors — to Loyola faculty and managers for use in lecture, seminar, and conference rooms at the Medical Center. If you have questions about available equipment, contact the LRC Office. Equipment is set up by the LRC staff for client use for a specific and limited time period. In general, long-term loans of LRC equipment are not available.

Direct delivery of AV equipment is provided to meeting sites in buildings on the LUMC campus, between 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday. Equipment for other LUMC locations available on pick-up and return basis. Equipment requests may be placed in person at the LRC Circulation Desk or by calling (708) 216-4764, between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. At other times, please leave a message and we will return your call the next business day. Reservations can also be made by filling out an AV Equipment Reservation Form and returning via email (see the form for additional information.)

All requests should be made at least two business days prior to the reservation date so as to allow us to schedule pickups and deliveries that can be done in a timely fashion, and are subject to the availability of equipment. Priority will be given to requests in the order in which they are received. Later requests may require different delivery arrangements or that equipment be picked up at the LRC by the requester.

Equipment reservations for early morning, evening, and weekend hours can be arranged by calling the LRC staff at x64764. Equipment will not be delivered and may not be left in meeting rooms unattended. We are glad to make arrangements that will allow for equipment usage to meet LUMC staff meeting needs. Please call us if you have any questions about this policy so that we can determine how best to serve you.

Requests for equipment for special events (dedications, conferences, etc.) should be arranged with the LRC at least 14 days in advance.

Please see the LRC AV Equipment Usage Policy for more detailed information on reserving AV equipment from the Learning Resources Center.

Study and AV Screening Rooms

The LRC group study rooms are available to LRC users on a "first request, first obtain" basis and reserved through the LRC office daily. The rooms are to be used for viewing LRC materials and for studying curriculum related materials or research. One user I.D. must be left at the LRC Circulation Desk while the room is in use.

LRC Circulation Policy

A current Loyola University I.D. card must be presented when using the LRC collection. Material in the general LRC collection may be borrowed for three days. LRC Reserve and Reference materials do not circulate outside the LRC but may be used in the LRC. Faculty and other Loyola instructors may charge out particular curriculum-related AV materials for longer periods by arrangement through the Head of the LRC, Stephen Van Houten.

The LRC non-print collection is located in a closed stack area behind the LRC desk (Area E on the floor plan of insert). All new titles added to the LRC collection are included in Pegasus, the Library’s online catalog. We welcome faculty suggestions for new titles for the LRC.

Help in identifying and locating audiovisual materials may be arranged with the Head of the Learning Resources Center, (708) 216-5307.

Electron Micrographs

The LRC collection includes four binders of Electron Micrographs used by the Medical Students. These micrographs have been scanned and are now available as digitized image files.
