The American Telemedicine Association defines telemedicine
as the "use of medical information exchanged from one site
to another via electronic communications for the health and
education of the patient or health care provider and for the
purpose of improving patient care."
At Loyola, we are using videoconferencing and
the Internet to provide different telemedicine
applications:
- Weekly Medicine and Surgery Ground Rounds videoconferences
to Resurrection Medical Center
- Weekly Pediatrics Grand Rounds videoconferences
between the Ronald McDonald Children’s Hospital and
SSOM.
- Weekly Pediatric Echocardiography videoconferences between
Loyola, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, and the Marshfield
Clinic
- Monthly Pediatric Gastroenterology videoconferences between
Loyola and Lutheran General Hospital
- Conservation Medicine course, Special Topics in Conservation
Medicine, sponsored by Loyola University/Stritch School
of
Medicine/University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine/Brookfield
Zoo
- · Intercampus committee and administrative meetings
- Occasional multi-institution, multi-site meetings
- Guest lectureships of Loyola faculty for classes held at
other institutions
Videoconferencing for Telehealth programs, using ISDN telephone lines,
is presently available in the following locations. Videoconferencing, using
the Internet, allows us to schedule videoconferences in virtually any meeting
room or office in at LUMC.
