Searching EBP Literature in CINAHL
The best strategy when searching for EBP articles is to break your question into parts, search the disease or topic in question in CINAHL or Medline, and then apply one or more of the following search criteria.

Subject Headings:
Nursing Practice, evidence based: Nursing practice that bases clinical decisions on research, clinical expertise, patient choices, and critical evaluation of the literature.
Nursing Practice, research based: Nursing practice based on scientific research.

Refine Search options:
Research Article: Indicates complete research study containing data collection, methodology, discussion of results, etc.

Evidence based practice: will restrict retrieval to this special interest topic, applied to selected records beginning in 1997.

Publication type: Clinical Trial: indicates research study is either a clinical trial or a randomized clinical trial

Protocol: Written plans specifying methods to be followed in performing various procedures

Practice guideline: Set of directions or principles to assist health care practitioners with patient care decisions. Guidelines may be developed and issued by government agencies, expert panels.

Systematic Review: indicates a research process in which a concept is identified and the original research studying that concept is analyzed and evaluated. The results are synthesized to present the current state of knowledge regarding the topic.
