Welcome from the Director

On behalf of the entire library faculty and staff I'd like to welcome you to the Loyola University Chicago Health Sciences Library. We are the academic library to the Stritch School of Medicine, the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing, and the Loyola University Medical Center. As such, we acquire, organize, and deliver information that is tailored to meet your teaching and learning, research, patient care, and lifelong learning needs. Our all-electronic collection facilitates biomedical discovery by connecting you to the resources, tools, and services you need to excel where and when needed. Masters-prepared librarians create and deliver innovative and customer-focused information services to help you make the most efficient use of library resources and your time. Take advantage of our reference and research assistance that is available to you onsite or online. Obtain needed content quickly and easily via our interlibrary loan service. Partner with library faculty to design information skills modules to support your course work, research, and information management needs. Explore our subject-based resource guides to a variety of disciplines that are created by my outstanding staff. Browse Discover - a Health Sciences Library/Informatics Department collaborative project that enables researchers on campus, and from all over the world, to locate Loyola experts and view academic faculty scholarship. And, after you've experienced some of what we have to offer, please share your feedback. We truly appreciate hearing from you.

Located in the heart of the academic corridor on the Health Sciences Division campus, the library offers a welcoming, comfortable, and collegial place to study, collaborate, connect, imagine, and achieve. Experience our wireless printing and charging stations. Join one of our workshops either online or on-site and learn about new information resources or how to maximize use of new features in familiar ones. Interested in trying new technology to support your work, your teaching, or your personal interests? Check out our Wacom tablet, iPad or eBeam capture technology. Collaborate in one of our group study rooms in the "Commons" or in perfect silence in the light-filled Quiet Study room. Here, you can research, learn, create, and socialize. Join our monthly faculty and staff book group to meet new colleagues where you can share a lunch over reflections on the readings. Find inspiration with thought-provoking discussions led by noted authors in our Humanities Forum events. Relax with Dogs@HSL, get together over Catan or one of the many items in our games collection, or pick up a copy of a print paperback in our leisure reading collection. Whether you connect with us on social media, virtually or onsite we are here to help you reach your goals and we aim to exceed your expectations.

It is a privilege to work with you.

Warmly,
Gail
