Adequate Literacy and Health Literacy: Prerequisites for informed Health Care Decision Making - AARP

California Health Literacy Initiative - This program strives to create long-lasting solutions that will positively impact the health and well-being of individuals with low-literacy skills, their families, and their communities. Information is provided for literacy practitioners, health care professionals, adult literacy and ESL students, and anyone who seeks a clear understanding of health information.

Health Information Literacy (MLA) - This health literacy page on the Medical Library Association site provides links to resources for health and information professionals as well as health consumers.

Health Literacy Studies (Harvard School of Health) - This site is designed for professionals in health and education who are interested in health literacy providing such useful materials as: a power point overview of health literacy, literature reviews, research reports on health and literacy, innovative health education materials, insights from researchers, practitioners, adult learners, and patients; and links to web sites related to health and literacy.

Institute for Healthcare Advancement - The Institute for Healthcare Advancement has joined the fight against low health literacy with a number of initiatives: sponsoring an annual Health Literacy Conference, HELP (Health Education Literacy Program): Teaching Reading and Health Together, and the "What To Do For Health" book series.

Literacy and Health Outcomes -The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) is developing scientific information for other agencies and organizations on which to base clinical guidelines, performance measures, and other quality improvement tools.

Pediatric Family Resource Library - Developed from a collaboration between the University of Massachusetts Medical School Lamar Soutter Library and UMass Memorial Children's Medical Center to promote health literacy among parents whose children are patients. This site offers Recommended Internet Resources and an Internet Evaluation Tool to assist in finding and deciphering quality health care information.
